Zia Anger’s first film is based on her acclaimed cross-media performance of the same name, where she deconstructed a failed film project live on screen in front of an audience in a spontaneous collage of clips and commentary. ‘My First Film’ is a film adaptation of the (un-)making of the original film that the 20-something Zia set out to make. With a head full of ideas, Zia (Odessa Young) gathers a team of ambitious but inexperienced friends to realise her vision of a young woman (played by the intensely charismatic young star Devon Ross) and her search for her true self. With irony, with, and with honest emotion where it counts, ‘My First Film’ is a playful and performative film that deconstructs itself as we watch it.
