For more than 50 years, Jon Bang Carlsen has been Danish cinema’s itinerant film poet and adventurer. A rare bird who has often sought out the vast American expanses for inspiration and higher skies. With ‘The More Naked You Dare to Be’, he takes stock of his own work and method, returning to his own roots and to the American small town of Winslow, Arizona, where he has collaborated with the locals – and not least the youth – on several occasions to develop small, cinematic life stories based on his concept of ‘the staged documentary’. Spontaneous glimpses of life meet existential reflection with an unpretentious pinch of self-irony, so that the divide between the frame and the world around it slowly begins to dissolve. The film is the final installment in Jon Bang Carlsen’s Winslow trilogy, which started with ‘The Banality of Grief’ (CPH:DOX 2021) and ‘Dreaming Arizona’ (CPH:DOX 2023).
